Some guest comments from the last year

“A warm welcome in a lovely spot”
We stayed here for just one night, booking fairly last minute and were lucky to get the last room.We were warmly greeted by Leisl, who instantly made us feel welcome. We had a family suite with a double bed and a seperate room with bunks for the kids and a bathroom. The room was not huge but definately enough if you are out and about most of the time, and really reasonably priced. In the evening we decided to eat in their "Pebbles Restaurant" which was a great decision. The food was delicious and beautifully presented, and the staff were excellent and friendly.Breakfast was great aswell with lots of choice. We would highly recomend The Lulworth Beach Hotel.

“fantastic”
we stayed for 1 night with our 2 children(well behaved and don't run around inside) the staff are so friendly, food superb, rooms are spotless and very reasonably priced, breakfast brilliant. This hotel has an atmosphere which is hard to beat . We travel all over the world and stay in 5* hotels but this place beats them all by far, the whole experience, is so unspoilt and tranquil.
We have already reccommended people to stay here, hope theres room for us next time, as this was an un-found treasure in our book.

Lovley Hotel With Fantastic Views
Had a Wonderful Stay, Exellent Food, Staff Very Friendly, Would Recomend To Anyone, Great Afternoon Cream Tea's, Wonderful Place To Visit, Would Come Again, Close To Beach In Total Very Good.

“An enchanting place”
From the moment we step into the cove we were instantly relaxed.
Checking in at the beach house was effortless and informative with regards to where and what to do.
My partner and I ate in Pebbles restaurant both nights and were very impressed with the food and great service, even though I have to admit it was rather pricey. , but was informed that everything was locally sourced so I can excuse this. There really isnt anywhere else to eat in the cove except pub grub!
Our room was clean and tidy and we were happy to be so close to the cove itself even though we didnt have a sea view.
We will definately be returning as we were made to feel like part of the family.

“What a delightful place to stay...”
Having read many bad reviews about this place, my partner and i decided to take the plunge and go to lulworth, with the idea that if it was so bad, we'd find somewhere else...
To our great surprise the place was yes family run and yes not all bells and whistles, but the rooms were clean, staff very friendly and accommodating and we had a great stay ...

“Friendly, cosy, family-run hotel. Brilliant if you manage your expectations properly.”
Having stayed at the Beach Hotel twice in the last 3 months, I must confess I felt nothing short of sheer surprise after reading some of the negative reviews outlined before in this thread.
I think this is clearly a case where people should work on managing their expectations better. To make it clearer, if you’re looking for a 5 star Maldives-style holiday, then you may find it useful to go abroad and pay £300/£500 per room per night plus flights and transfers, etc. Now, if you’re looking for a quiet break in one of the UK’s prime seaside locations at a reasonable £100/£120 per night (peak rates), at a friendly, cosy, family-run hotel, then the Lulworth Beach Hotel will be the right choice.
My wife and I travel by train from London to Wool, usually on Fridays, arriving after 11.00pm. Despite the late hours we have always been greeted by the owners in a very friendly way, and they go the extra mile to make us feel comfortable. The thing that really compels us to return to the Beach Hotel whenever we go to Lulworth is the fact that we never feel like we’re actually staying in a hotel – it’s more like staying at a friend’s holiday home, where your hosts get to know you and make you feel welcome. As such, I couldn’t care less if there are faults in the décor (which, really, unless you’re very peaky you’ll actually struggle to spot) and things alike. Again, you’re not staying in a £300 a night hotel room. The restaurant, Pebbles is a bit overpriced, yes. But at the end of the day you have the choice of eating somewhere else! I personally don’t as I find the food there extremely pleasant and that suits my expectations (try the chocolate fondant with pistachio ice cream if you do go there for a meal!). Moreover, if you fancy an after-dinner drink, try going to the bar next door (also run by the owners) and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere.
To sum-up, if your plan is to enjoy Lulworth to the fullest, go to the beach and/or go for long walks on the seaside hills whilst staying at a welcoming, confortable hotel, then I do encourage you to call the Beach Hotel and make a reservation. If your aim is to stay indoors all the time benefitting from a lavish type of service and from super modern and stylish facilities, then try a 5 star resort in the Indian/Pacific Ocean.

“Most enloyable stay”
I booked this hotel before reading the reviews and then doubted my selection. I need not have worried. We had booked room 20 and was not disappointed. The room was well presented, the bed extremely comfy and the view was fab. We had dinner at the hotel tew nights and eat out the other but I much preferred the hotel menu. The breakfasts were plentiful and the staff were friendly. The pub below the decking was both welcoming and friendly.
i would like to add the I spend at least three nights a week in business hotels as a general rule and therefore know when a hotel is not up to scratch. I can honestly say our stay at the hotel was both relaxing and most enjoyable. We will be back

“The best hotel room I've stayed in”
Unpretentious; unusual; great room; excellent service; some very good food (especially the puddings). After three nights we knew we would come back. Not expensive for the location and quality of service. No fuss, friendly, very well conceived small hotel. I was reminded of the best French seaside hotels I've stayed in. We gave it five stars all round (except for the very poor breakfast sausage).

“Very enjoyable stay”
Having read some of the reports here I was fearing for the worse. I couldn't have been more surprised to find none of the problems mentioned and had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. The staff and owners were very welcoming and the rooms and food were of a very good standard. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

“A lovely peaceful weekend away.”
Once having arived there we were warmly welcomed by the friendly staff. We were then showed to our room located away from the restaurant in an annex. As we had booked at short notice, this was the only room left , but was fine. We had a very comfortable bed and the T.V had Sky. The warmth in the room was great, especially as it was so windy outside. With its own sink in the room and excellent views overlooking the sea and hills nearby, it was an amazing setting for a quiet weekend.
The food was excellent and attractively presented, the portions were generous. Although the prices for some dishes were a little high, it was a weekend for treating ourselves so we were not too worried about it. The setting of the restaurant was great and in summer you could eat outside on a lovely decked area.
We will definitely go back sometime.

“Wonderful Friendly Atmosphere”
Having read the reviews prior to staying at the Beach House Hotel I was a little concerned, the weekend was booked by my husband as a valentines treat....
I should not have been concerned on arrival we were met by Amy who was very welcoming and showed us to our room - The room was clean and bright with a small terrace overlooking the cove. The view was great!! They even recommended a wonderful cosy pub for dinner that evening for those who didn't want to eat in the restaurant.
On the Saturday morning we had breakfast in the pebbles restaurant which was excellent - nothing was too much trouble for the staff.
On the Saturday evening we had dinner at the pebbles restaurant, starting with a complimentary glass of champagne (not a cheap cava), the dinner of 3 courses was very well presented and delicious... the waiting staff were very attentive once again ... after dinner more champagne was available for everyone if required.
Overall my entire experience was thoroughly enjoyable and the Beach House Hotel is fabulous - Lisel is a wonder host who makes you feel like one of the family instead of a paying quest. I would recommend the hotel to all and would personnaly like to thank Lisel and her staff. 10 out of 10 - but don't take my word for it - try it yourself you won't be dissapointed...

“unprecedented honesty”
Wow.. very impressed by the owner, Liesl.
I tried to book a romantic get-away. It's a birthday, and I'm with a girlfriend who I think might be the one, we both need time-out.. you get the picture. Lulworth is such a beautiful place, green rolling hills, dramatic coast, it's perfect.
I was looking for a boutique hotel or a quirky B&B like the ones found on the website: mrandmrssmith.com .
Wasn't much availability in the area for the weekend we wanted to travel, but The Beach Hotel fortunately had one last room available, so I booked it up. I did mention the poor Trip Advisor review at the time, and Kelly who took my booking did make it clear its the last room they let for a reason. But I booked it up anyway.
Liesl e-mails me this morning to say that room is in need of a re-paint which won't be done for a couple of weeks, would we like to re-schedule our trip?
I'm very impressed with this level of professionalism. Travel is a big part of my job, and I can't think of many other hotels that would have the integrity to deal with customers so openly. With Management like this I'm sure The Beach Hotel will address any issues with the rooms as quickly as possible.
I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.
NB. The pictures of the bathroom posted on TA are from 2003.. things will have moved on as the owners are clearly taking steps to get everything right.

“A balanced review of the Beach Hotel”
Having booked before seeing some of the comments posted on this site I was quite worried about what I was getting into. However upon arrival although some previous points from other reviews were well made I feel some are unjustified. So here goes:
1) The walk from the main car park to the hotel is about 100 yards. The car park is quite full during the day with tourist traffic but we had no trouble finding a space on any of the four days we were there. The hotel is located on the single track road down to the cove and a short walk is therefore unavoidable unless you wanted half the village rebuilt to accomodate parking opposite.
2) Mobile phone reception can be gained at the cliff top, however I don't feel this problem can be laid on the hotel. Unless of course you want a big mobile phone mast errected to spoil the beautiful views.
3) The reception at the hotel was friendly and helpful.
4) We had room 28. Yes, it was small and yes it did need some redecoration. The hotel is basically a large house converted into guest accomodation. Therefore you will not get a room of the size you would expected in a custom built hotel. The fixtures and fittings are fairly typical English B&B style.(i.e Basic and slightly dated).
5) Breakfast is good and the staff are helpful.
6) There is a small residents bar that is expensive £5 for spirit and mixer, however, if you go across the decking to the adjoining bar there is a relaxed and chatty atmosphere and it is cheaper. Also usualy one of the owners of the hotel are there to talk to.
7) Upon one such evening we spoke to both Phil and Liesel who run the hotel and found them to be very nice friendly people, who will respond willing to feedback. There overall attitude is "if you have a problem then talk to us and we will do something about it".
To summarise I would say this is a typical English B&B except for the staff who are above average.
Lulworth itself is pleasant and quiet. So don't go there expecting wild evenings because this is not what it's about. Try Bournemouth for that.

“Lovely break”
I'm surprised by the poor reviews for this place; I've just had a two night stay with my fiance and we were pleasantly surprised having read previous reviews before we went.
The room (21) was more than big enough, the bathroom could have done with a coat of paint but other than that it was totally adequate. At £95 per night it is a bit on the pricey side but you're paying for the location which cant be faulted (30 seconds from the cove). The breakfast was good and service on the whole was speedy and attentive, particularly the Aussie waitress who is a real asset.
All in all then, its not the cheapest place and its not the plushest but you get great service and an unbeatable location with a decent bedroom to relax in after that walk to Durdle door
